Carla Mathis

Sr. Instructional Designer, Training Development and Administration

American Airlines

Carla Mathis is a senior instructional designer on the American Airlines Training Development and Administration team. In her role, she is responsible for learning initiatives and practical training support for the Ground Operations, Customer Care, Cargo, and Service Recovery teams. Upon graduation from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Carla immediately began her career in elementary education. After 10 years, she transitioned to adult education, where she gained advanced skills in facilitation, management, and instructional design. Carla has done extensive research regarding inclusion, diversity, and accessibility as it relates to the design and development of engaging content in web-based, instructor-led, and virtual training environments. In 2020, she was a contributing author for the Association of Talent Development’s publication, ìDeveloping Inclusive Training Content with a Focus on Diversity and Accessibility.î
